High Commissioner’s Meeting with Hon Linda Dessau AC,

High Commissioner Babar Amin called on Hon. Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria to discuss bilateral relations and promotion of multifaceted cooperation between Victoria State and Pakistani provinces. He briefed the Governor about High Commission’s initiatives to strengthen institutional linkages between Pakistan and Australia in the areas of economic, trade, agriculture, IT, education, health and scientific cooperation. The High Commissioner also apprised the Governor on the significant role played by Pakistani Community in Victoria in many fields as well as their contribution in the relief efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Governor was also briefed about the business and investment opportunities in Pakistan.

The Governor agreed on the potential of cooperation between Victoria State and Pakistani provinces. She appreciated the formation of Australia-Pakistan Friendship Group in the Parliament of Victoria as well as a similar group in the Australian Parliament. The Governor inquired about the Covid-19 situation in Pakistan and how the two countries could collaborate in sharing best practices, management of pandemic and the related research. The Governor also mentioned a number of high-quality education andhealth sciences institutions in Victoria, which could cooperate with Pakistani counterpart institutions in the areas of academic and research collaboration.
