High Commissioner for Pakistan’s meeting

with the Director Asia-Pacific, Cargill Australia

High Commissioner Babar Amin met with Peter McBride, Director Asia-Pacific, Cargill Australia, today. Consul General Melbourne, Sardar Adnan Rashid was also present in the meeting.

Mr. McBride briefed the High Commissioner on Cargill’s planned $200 million investment in Pakistan. Spread over 3-5 years, the investment would mainly cover edible oil sector and food supply chains. Already, Cargill had entered into a business arrangement with a Pakistani company. In the coming years, it planned to expand its operations in Pakistan, he added.

High Commissioner welcomed Cargill’s decision to select Pakistan for its investment. He stated that Pakistan offered attractive incentives such as 10 years corporate tax holiday in SEZs, ease of doing business and an investment friendly environment. Cargill should take benefit of the  facilities available to the investors and consider investing in cold chain management, fruits and vegetables export and edible oil refining, he said. Mr. McBride stated that his company was looking for areas to invest in Pakistan and thanked the High Commissioner for identifying a few for them  to consider.
